Which do you prefer, Teamspeak or Ventrilo? Please only vote if you've used both.

TS...Simple and reliable.:D

Vent is simple too and even announces the name of the person entering and leaving the channel.

As we use TS at the moment, I see no reason to change to a very similar service that you get with vent. Basically, if it aint broke, then dont fix it.

Well, with AOWC buying out Wolf Servers, Vent servers wil probably become available. The admin interface is much easier than TS. I figured I'd see who has used it before and see if people would like to switch to it.

I've used it before and the audio is clearer, and you dont have to worry so much about mic issues!

But If TS3 comes out anytime soon I'd go with that in a hearbeat.

I agree with papa and Gross. The admin system is easier for ventrilo, and the audio quality is clearer.

I have used both in the past, and do not really care, but if I had to choose, it would be ventrilo due to the reasons stated above and because Ventrilo uses less system resources than TS.

Vent

1. Anounces name
2. Has binds ability
3. Has ability to place comments beside your name... ex: (Captains metting at 9:30, don't forget!)
4. Audio much better than TS from what I see...
5. Ability to have instant chat in a room with people, in case a mic isn't working or for helping someone initially setup...

just a few little things that make a big diff and why i used to love vent...

Never used vent but have heard it's better from my buddies that play WoW.

Vent has much better audio quality. I haven't used it too much recently but that is where I put my vote.

i run a free vent off my computer from time to time. even the free server has better codec, speech quality, and reliability than TS2. as far as i see things vent is leaps and bounds above team speak.

i've never been an admin for TS but on vent its nice and simple. i use it all the time to kick smacktards off my vent, they can get rather heated during out DotA matches.

p.s. see you monday im at the beach suckas!

I played with a clan who used vent and I have to say it wasn't any better sound quality wise. And the squelch you get when using "push to talk" is annoying.

I can't say I've ever heard the squelch. As a matter of fact, every time I've used Vent it's seemed like the people talking were in the room with me. None of this far off sounding mic's or mic's that are too loud or too quiet.

LockeCPM4
06-21-2009, 01:26 PM
You can turn the squelch off. If it does not impact our costs if/when this becomes available, I say run a trial of Ventrilo and see what people think.

Honestly, as long as we have a voice server that works, I am cool one way or the other.

vent is not as much a rescource hog as TS and sounds worlds better so i say to all the doubters try it you will friggin like it.

I have also used it & it is easy & sounds better .. I don't mind which one we use ... I have heard people say there is sometimes lag when they use ts.. and then i know i had to reconfigure the mic after using ts .. for it to work right again.... we should try it ..

To your point, there is a much bigger delay with TS than with Ventrilo. I have tried to warn people of an enemy location, only to find out they didn't hear me until they were already getting killed.

Setting macros/key binds is easier in Ventrilo as well.

i'd have to go with teamspeak cause it's free, but thats my opinion. and i dont think that voice quality will be too much of a problem once the nice people over at ts hurry up and finish ts3

Well I honistly dont care i just voted for vent because of quality, but I I'd deff go with ts if they ever release TS3

ITankGood

well from what i've read the TS voters seems to only want TS because its easier to not change. i'm willing to bet those of us who voted for vent did so because we really, really dont like TS.

i promise you vent has a nicer interface, is more computer and mic friendly, and is just over all better. TS3 isnt worth waiting for because vent is already here, and they havent made a new version in ages because the current version is not broken.

well i voted for TS just cause i'm more used to it. i do have vent on my rig but never really use it (cause i'm not familiar with it and have no one to talk to on it mostly).
if vent is better and it seems to have won the vote, i say we try it especially if it elimintes delay and uses less resources.

I would be willing to pay for this in full from another company (If wolf servers doesn't ever offer Ventrilo). I would consider this my contribution to this clan, and the only thing that I would request out of it is admin on it. (I don't abuse admin privileges anyway so I wouldn't think that this would be much of a problem). I just want to make sure that people would use it before I pay $12/mo out of my pocket for something.

I've already created another topic on this as I didn't know that this one existed. Can someone delete the other one?

Once I know people will be using it I'll purchase one. :)

Thanks.

It was a big effort just getting people to install and use TS. Personally, I think trying to get anyone to setup Vent will just be another struggle. I hardly use TS because I can't stand all the constant chatter. I don't mind using in-game VOIP for tactical discussion, but TS gets too noisy and there's too much of a delay when talking.

Ok so would you guys mind if i set up a [FLOT] ventrilo for anyone who wants to use it? It'd probably be about 15-25 slots and cost $7/mo (out of my pocket of course). Mainly because I know myself and a few others would really like to have ventrilo for the superiour features and voice quality.

I would switch to using vent if others were going to... However, as I am not a big cheese I don't really matter in this one :p

Oilman already has one, but as he said, not many people use it. Most stick with TS.

I actually still have one from eBoom (thought it had expired already). I've decided to renew it (this was before I knew about Oilman's vent (srry). It's 25 slots (which can be upgraded if/when necessary).

Information for whoever wants to use it

IP/Hostname: Chicago.maxfrag.net
Port: 4151
Password: none.

What's the info for Oilman's server, that way I won't renew this one next month if you guys want to use that instead.

went on Shotguns yesterday late, no-one was there so maybe i'll try again tonight. Same with Oilmans as well. (just needed the PW since it gave me a PW error)

I wonder if we can get these up two up temporarily on the Teamspeak setup page so they are easy to find.

the problem is, now we will have an already dormant ts with maybe 5-10 people in it per night, on the generous side...and now we are splitting that up to three different voice servers?

pretty dumb

Shotgun202

I personally will be in both teamspeak + vent until either everyone stops using vent, or everyone stops using ts and switches to vent.

Personally me, PTB, and a few other friends of mine that we play with have always had Ventrilo and really dislike Teamspeak due to the mic issues that they always have making them very hard to hear or understand in TeamSpeak (Kingkong957/GorillaWarfare who you may see around from time to time sounds like the the hulk talking over a crappy cell phone on TS, which is very annoying).

That's the reason that I don't really like using TS, just so you all know.

I would have to vote Vent on this one. I tried out Oilman's vent for a while until people stopped using it. I found that it had much cleaner sound, was easily modified (bindings and such), and all around was very user friendly. That being said doesn't mean i don't like TS. Vent had less of an effect on my game play as running TS did. My ping seems to increase 10-20points when i have it running. That may not seems like much to some of you but when you are playing with a ping of around 100, 120 makes a big difference. So what ever is decided i choose Vent, hands down.
