Anyone that wants to get a good price on Windows 7 should preorder now, or get ripped off later.

I just preordered mine. I have the Windows 7 beta, and I absolutely love it. The aero interface looks better, and is more customizeable than Vista. It is the fastest version of Windows ever according to several reviews and various benchmarks. It is speedy quick, snappy, and responsive. My games load faster and run smoother than Vista for sure. Windows 7 has better memory management and better support for multithreading (multi-core processors) than any previous version of windows. I find it funny that even at beta and RC Windows 7 is faster and more stable than Windows Vista or XP. I just can't wait for Win7 to go retail so evenbalance can quit being lazy and make Punkbuster work.
At $49.99 for Home Premium, Windows 7 is well worth the price.

I really wish Wine worked better with cod4 and 2142... if so i'd probably stop using windows altogether lol

It's a great deal. I also have been running 7 on two (yes that is the number 2) different machines. Both run flawlessly (given that I don't have correct video drivers for machines that are 5 years old). It's very stable and great. I don't currently run it on my main box (Vista) as I am waiting for even balance to get their act together too.
Well done Microsoft. :)

Locke...just saw this on the main page...
Windows 7 Beta expires soon!
Still using the Windows 7 Beta? Your system will start rebooting every two hours on July 1. Get the RC today (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/download.aspx).

Gotta love being MCSE and a member of MS TechNet. I usually get between 5 and 10 copies of the OS's when they are released. Usually enough for me to reinstall on all my computers.
I haven't touched Win7 yet though. Found no need since Vista run flawlessly for me.

Still got another year free before you have to buy it.
Don't forget that windows 7 allows PunkBuster screen shots unlike Vista, I have the RC on my laptop and love it, but still have Vista on my desktop. Once my school gets a copy i'll buy it through them for cheap.

I am also using the RC version, should have made the clear in the main post. I currently dual boot because Evenbalance is run by a bunch of retards and have rediculous policies about beta operating systems.

What do you mean, I'm not experiencing any problems what so ever with 2142 and punkbuster on my windows 7 machine

Yeah, I heard that it is very intermittant. Some people have issues with PB and Win7, and some do not. I get kicked almost every time.
Evenbalance does not officially support Windows 7 yet:
"...and we will not support Windows 7 until it is released to the general public for purchase. I'm sorry, but we do not support beta or release candidate operating systems." -Evenbalance
Besides a lot of tweaking/hacking the only way to run a PB game on Windows 7 is to connect to servers that do not kick for the "Unknown Operating System", or the "Unknown Exception" errors that I get.

Very Very strange, I get none of that on my windows 7 machine, I'm not talking intermittant, im talking 100% working. heck, it allowed you guys to take Punkbuster screen shots of me when Vista wouldn't.
I think it's similar to when they first didn't support 64bit systems but now they do and it was hit or miss untill they did. The release is coming up fast so your problems should be gone soon.
What build of the RC are you running?

I am running the one from the MS website. I believe it is RC 7100, but I am not sure as I am writing this from work.

I bought the OSX version of both COD4 and BF2142. COD4 loads instantly and runs absolutely great. However, 2142 runs under Wine so it takes longer to load up and it has the same random occasional crashes that I saw under Windows. It is playable on a fast OSX system but it isn't great because of the overhead of running the Windows emulator.
