For anyone that may want a challenge, here's a little thing that tells about making a new theme for vb4:
http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/entry.php?2373-vB4-Skinning-Your-Forum-in-10-Easy-Steps
If someone can make a decent theme, it would be appretaited, at least as a place holder until we get a professional one made.

Based on that I could give it a go. However in terms of the graphics, someone else would have to make them and give them to me. I think we might as well try to make one to save you/the clan some money :)

I could also code the theme, however i'd need someone to create me a PSD (*cough* synergy *cough* :)).

Ive changed a few stylevars and clicked save, but nothing seems to have changed at all when i click refresh on the forrums, do i have to press some magical reset button somewhere to load the new settings?

I appreciate you working on the forums but honestly when I saw the color changes, I thought "Who had diarrhea on the forum?" :)
I'll PM that info to you (Although you should already have it - it was included with all that info I gave you guys a few months ago)

Honestly i think this beta is buggy as hell, about half the changes ive made are showing up. Yeah it kinda does look poopish. I was just trying a few color combos that are easier on the eyes.
Edit: I might just not be doing some correctly though. There are so many different variables to change for each little tiny specific thing its ridiculous.

It doesn't look be best, but my eye's aren't screaming now. Thanks Shinobi

It's getting better, but the menu under the "Home, Forum, What's New" etc bar is unreadable and the little arrow to the left of "Quick Reply" is hard to see.

It certainly looks a lot nicer, not so in your face with white. Will do for the time being really...

Im not so blind which is nice, turned down the brightness on my laptop to read the forums :D
But when we can implement our own theme again I will be happy.
Right now its not really OUR website, just a website

I think we need to lose the background texture... kinda looks bad when combined with the other colors.
Killer0Monkey

Just go for a grey or something

allright, done and done, i cant make it too dark because a lot of the text in the links are set to transparent and wont change for some reason, so if i change the back ground darker you wont be able to read about 40% of the stuff on this page

It looks much better now then it did with the weird texture. Most writing is clear enough for me to see anyway :)

The Forum changes are MUCH appreciated. I can't wait until we get it looking more like our old Forums tho. what prompted the change instead of keeping it like it was?
-sorry if you've answered this before somewhere else

Were testing out the new vbulletin beta, our old themes don't work with the new version "4.0". This theme is just a temporary set of changes ive made to the vanilla vbulletin theme, which is almost completely comprised of white.

I think we should setup a demo board where you guys can mess with the themes, and then once we get one that doesn't have any bugs that are added to the system we can move the theme over here (very easy to do). According to the vB license you are allowed to have one testing, and one live install, just so long as the testing board is protected by password.

Think its fine right now are there really that many bugs that are keeping us from using it in its current state, my biggest problem is just the lack of themes

I've had to revert us back to the default style due to the problems that Shinobi's changes have made. I did set up a test forum for him to test changes on. If anyone else wants to take a shot at it, contact me or a senior member to get the information for the test server.

i think that the new forum is just to plain, regardless of the changes. We definately need some themes like crotan mentioned. Also im not a big fan of the white wall effect for the site. Might try switching back to a darker color just to be a little easier on the eyes

If you can fix the length issue we had with it... it was sticking out over the edge before. Also, please back up anything you change so it can be restored easily if needed.
ShinobiWan

I put in a simple graphic to replace the vbulletin logo. Dont wanna make anymore changes untill vb4 is full released. That graphic length issue was probably due to the fact that i have my resolution cranked way up and it fit fine on my screen, regardless though it should've forced the size on other resolutions. I think that might be another bug in the system. Also im not actually deleting anything, all the changes i make can be defaulted by hitting the reset key next to their perspective stylevar. Im taking notes on everything i change in the future so if somethings go "bonk" it should be easilly fixed without having to erase all the changes at once.

good good the FLOTGaming.net graphic was needed to replace that vb4. In it's current state with the colors we have now and the graphic, it is fine until we get a real theme

So now that it’s not in beta anymore should we all start bugging Synergy to make a nice Flash header? I remember seeing some promising ones that he had made for that transition website we had awhile back

I'm still hoping that the place that we got our old theme from will convert it to vb 4.

right click it and save it, open it up in photoshop and click on image size, it should tell you right there, it doesn't have to be that small though, just don't make it too wide or tall.

lol, where is the limit, in other words, to where i can make it go...i dont know what part you are considering the "banner", the whole black section under where the tabs are on top, or just the left side of that, or ???
ShinobiWan
01-07-2010, 05:30 PM
The flotgaming.net text at the top left of the screen is the banner. Its just opaqued around the edges to let the background show, you can make it a bit wider and taller if you'd like, i had problems with the vb4 beta not forcing the size on other peoples browsers so im not sure if it works yet or not. just make sure its a gif and that the background can show around the edges. Or come up with something that blends in well with the gradient bar behind it. If you come up with some ideas, send them to me and ill test them out before we add them.

The new color scheme and banner look great IMO. Nice work. The banner is much what I imagined it should look like. It could maybe use our clan name in it, if possible.
